Hot and Bothered

Title sure caught your eye, didn’t it?

Alas, that’s not where The Curmudgeon is going.

He never does, does he?

Actually, what he’s trying to say is that before Republicans get all hot and bothered about how special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is starting to look into the president’s business dealings in Russia, it would serve them well to remember their absolute glee when 1990s special prosecutor Kenneth Starr’s investigation of the Clintons’ investment in an Arkansas land development deal veered into then-President Clinton’s extra-marital sex life and gave them the gift of Monica Lewinsky.

So when it suited their needs Republicans wanted the special prosecutor to go wherever the trail of potential misdeeds led but now that a fellow Republican is on the receiving end of a special counsel’s attention they want today’s special counsel to follow straight and narrow.

You can’t have it both ways, Republicans.

Having it both ways is the only way Republicans operate. Like Geico, “It’s what they do.”

Oh, but they can have it both ways. They are reveling in having it any way they want. Curmudgeon, I am so despondent. When a repub who is suffering from brain cancer has first hand knowledge of how important health care is and then he votes to allow a measure to continue that will cause many to lose their care…they have it both ways. When a “president” continues to lie and lie and be supported by people who are supposed to uphold the truth, they have it both ways. I am so tired and feel like a personal witness to the death of our country.

Did you notice that even MSNBC praised McCain for his remarks on the Senate floor yesterday? If McCain is so damn noble, why did he vote to allow debate on a bill that the leader of his party refused to divulge? Yes, it’s all appalling. I still find myself saying – aloud – “We elected Donald Trump president. DONALD TRUMP!”

You and I did not elect him. The thought that I did not vote for him is the only shred of peace I have.
