This Town is Going to the Dogs

Literally.

Last week the local newspaper’s “goings on around town” feature listed the following item:

Read to a Dog. 3:30 p.m. at Haddonfield Public Library. Get some one-on-one time with a local pup and read it a book. Registration is required.

Seriously?

A much neater trick would be dogs reading to people

Read to…dogs? Do dogs appreciate literature?

And if one decided to take advantage of this special opportunity, The Curmudgeon wondered: who picks the book?

The library?

The reader?

The…dog?

He decided that regardless of who does the picking, Old Yeller should NOT be on the reading list. About 50 years after seeing that movie The Curmudgeon is STILL traumatized by its ending.

But this town is really, really going to the dogs.
